Crystals, their beauty, geometric structure, and cosmic energy have captivated us over the millennia. If you are new to crystals, it may be a little overwhelming with so many different dazzling colors and varying shapes; you may be wondering how choose a crystal that is right for you. Even if you have been working with crystals for a while, you may be pondering how to select the next one.

First, it's important to know that there is no right or wrong way to choose a crystal, however, one of the best ways to choose a crystal that's right for you is to be open and receptive to the crystal that you are instinctively drawn towards without thinking about it too much. I remember walking into my first crystal store and examining the various stones on display, and in spite of the fact that there were so many to choose from, my spirit was intrinsically drawn to the pink crystal Rose Quartz long before I knew anything about its healing properties. While in the store, I kept coming back to this stone, picking it up, holding it in both hands, and examining its shape and properties. After completing my purchase, I learned that Rose Quartz was the stone of love, particularly self love and deep inner healing. To this day, I love to wear and carry this beautiful, calming, and peaceful stone that resonated with me so deeply.

As I learned more about crystals, I began to seek them out for their specific spiritual healing properties, particularly as a way to aid me in coping with ongoing anxiety and panic attacks while going through a very stressful period in my life related to a demanding work environment. As my ability to deal with my job stresses began to erode and my anxiety and panic attacks spiraled, I started to search for alternate ways to cope until I could change my situation. This search led me to Sodalite, a dark blue high vibration crystal that is purported to help restore emotional balance and calm panic attacks. I also like to use Amethyst as I find that this crystal helps to soothe my nerves. Most people have heard of Amethyst, but did you know that this crystal comes from the Greek root, amethystos, which means "not intoxicating?" I use Amethyst coupled with deep breathing and lavender oil when feelings of anxiety began to bubble up and overwhelm me. It helps to induce a calming and grounded feeling within especially when placed on my forehead, naval, or heart. There are a number of other crystals that may aid in helping with anxiety and panic, but my point is that a specific crystal is there when you are in need of its healing powers.

What is that you would like to manifest - is it wealth, love, health, friendship or something else? Did you know that certain crystals can help manifest your dreams into reality? For example if you are seeking prosperity and success Pyrite can attract abundance and instill confidence, assertiveness, and energy. This crystal has a brassy metallic appearance and its name comes from the Greek word pyr which means fire. Pyrite is found in many parts of the world from Peru and Spain to Australia and the Czech Republic. It's an ideal stone for use when forging a new business venture or taking on additional risk. In addition to Pyrite, Citrine and Aventurine may also help you to attain financial freedom. Aventurine, a green crystal, is sometimes referred to as the 'Stone of Opportunity' and is one of the luckiest of all crystals. Use it to manifest wealth and abundance in your life. Citrine, comes from the Greek word Citron which means to take action. The gemstone comes in a variety of hues from yellow to greenish or brownish yellow, and even orange. It is often said that Citrine is Amethyst's sister as much of the Citrine today is derived from heating amethyst to extremely high temperatures. Often called the 'merchant stone', it can be useful to promote success, luck, and good fortune in business and inspire you to take action to achieve your goals and ambitions.

Are you looking to attract love? Pink is a color that is often synonymous with love, so it's no surprise that Rose Quartz, Rhodonite, and Pink Kunzite can help to soothe emotional wounds, strengthen a broken heart, encourage forgiveness, and open your heart to let others in. These crystals carry the vibration energy of love, so wear them near your heart. Rhodonite is a crystal that resembles pink marble with some veins of black and takes its name from Rhodon, the Greek word for Rose. It will help you to act with love, compassion, altruism, and generosity. Pink Kunzite a lesser known crystal can also be used to help radiate love and attract a lifelong soulmate. In a subsequent journal entry, I will delve into more detail on how to use specific crystals and positive affirmations to manifest your intentions.

Another way to choose a crystal that is just right for you is to elicit the help of a crystal expert. This individual can help you choose some crystals to start with and recommend ways to get the most out of their subtle healing properties. This can be especially useful if you have a specific desire in mind.
